ok you want to upgrade to 10.10?

Thats different to this command...I got this confused for ages

sudo do-release-upgrade

or check upgrade manager and tick the box that enables release upgrades :-)

apt-get update and apt-get upgrade install the regular updates for the current release.

Release upgrade command is mentioned above by Hippytaff.

And the box for release upgrades is under System > Administration > Software Sources > Updates > Release Upgrade > and select Normal Releases.
