With the updates this morning I received the new Kernel and Headers. Now I can't boot. Anyone else receiving this? Anyone got a fix other than reinstall? I finally got my web platform in shape for development. No backup.

so you might have the previous kernel installed and the recovery modes too. Hold down the "shift" key at end of bios process to see the grub menu on a single distro installation.

Hi and welcome to the forums :-)

Was there also an update for GRUB? If yes, what did you choose to do when it popped up a dialog box?

The advice posted above by dino99 is also worth pursuing.

I don't even get to the GRUB selection screen. Let me try the shift trick. I'll post what happens. I only have one machine at the moment, so need to reboot out of windows mode. Thanks for the replies!

No dice with shift. Before it loads the GRUB screen it says:

Error: unknown command 'loadfont'.

And, yes, there was an update for GRUB as well.

It sounds as if this might be a GRUB issue.

To make sure, please boot with a LiveCD and choose to try Ubuntu.

Click on the link at the bottom of my post and run the boot info script (instructions included).

Post the results back here and we will take a look.

Thanks.

This seems to be similar to the problem that I posted just after you here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1632001) except I'm not getting any errors before a restart. I'm going to try the shift advice and the boot_script advice.

Any chance you could explain what happened here? And, what deleting most of that file did? I'm back up and running.

Firstly, I am very pleased you got things worked out :)

Please mark this thread Solved using the Thread Tools near the top of the page.

Forum member bcbc (one of our Wubi experts) could explain it better, but I will give it a go.

There are problems with GRUB, especially GRUB updates, that cause Wubi installs to fail. It is a bit more complicated than that, but keep an eye out for his posts for a better explanation.

Rubi1200, you're awesome. I'll be responding on that thread but the link you posted worked like a charm with some minor modifications for the way my wubi system was setup.

Thanks
