I have a MacBook PRO 7.1 and just re-installed Ubuntu on it this week-end. The first install showed two CPUs in System Monitor, but this one does not. Looks like only one CPU is available.

Here is my output to uname -a

Linux WillBookPro 2.6.35-23-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 17 22:14:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/LinuxOutput to cat /proc/cpuinfo

Output uname -a instead of uname -r
Also,

cat /var/log/messages | grep "log source" -m 1 -A 300 | tee bootlog.txt

And post the file here.

I changed the uname -r to uname -a info just before you posted, see edit in original post. Thanks.

So you did :-) A non SMP kernel would have been easy to change, but i don't even think single processor installations use that anymore.

The acpi_apic_instance=2 thing might be worth trying. Press shift to enter the grub menu when booting, e to edit and put acpi_apic_instance=2 after "quiet splash" in the fourth or fifth line. Press ctrl + x to boot. Or maybe you should ask the question in the Mac subforum.

Well this is nice...

As stated in the logs, I added "acpi_apic_instance=2" to /etc/default/grub... and now it works!

Looks like that was the culprit! Excellent. Should I actually send an email to the person, as stated here?:

That's a really good idea. It's probably Mac related, and it's always good to get rid of compatibility problems like that.
