Essentials for a new Ubuntu user

Over the next few months I am planning on telling a lot of my friends about Ubuntu and hopefully switch them to this intriguing OS.

What would you recommend as the 10 or 20 must do's after installing Ubuntu.

There are some 10 or 20 must do's before installing Ubuntu.

Letting them know it won't work exactly the same.
The interface is different
Their programs will not* work.
Finding out if Ubuntu is even a good choice for them.


*some of course may have native versions or run in WINE

(I know that's not 10 or 20 but you get my point)

First make sure their hardware is compatible by running from the live CD environment.
