I found Rosetta Stone to be very slow and awkward.

Vocabulary, word formation, and grammatical structure need to be committed to memory. RS felt like an awkward puzzle game which took too long to get to the point.

It'd be great to see an open source community project to enable rapid language learning and bring improved human communication to the masses who can't afford the usually pricey commercial language courses.
