OK - Trying to install Ubuntu from a hard drive - tried the USB install but the bios does not seem to recognize USB - tried a bootable CD but that didn't work - so now I have a new drive (which works -and has been formatted) copied the bootable files and still doesn't work.
Now I did get the CD to read (From my wife's Dell mini) - but this is a desktop and I could only go so far with it before it froze.
Hardware seems to work. Which exact files do I need to have on the hard drive so that when I plug it in and get the system to boot from the HD that Ubuntu will start loading???
Please help.
Thanks

As Wilee says, plop is wonderful for getting old computers to boot USB.

If it doesn't work for you try booting the iso image using grub2:
