Not according to the release notes:

"The minimum memory requirement for Ubuntu 10.10 is 256 MB of memory."

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat/ReleaseNotes#System Requirements

[It goes onto discuss some caveats, but I'd suggest putting at least another 256 in there - I'm sure it's available pretty much free! ;)

Cheers,
Ian

You can try Lubuntu.

Minimum requirements for lubuntu are comparable to Pentium II or Celeron systems with a 128 Mb RAM configuration, which may yield a slow yet usable system with lubuntu.

Or a minimal install of Ubuntu with LXDE.

It might work, but you will not be satisfied. I have Lubuntu on 192 MB, and I will not recommend to go any lower.

Try Puppy Linux, there are a bunch of reformatted pupplets as well. Runs in root generally so just know that, can be set up to a have the same limitations as most open source=password.
