Home Listings: Finding Repos?

My girlfriend and I are in the process of looking for a new home. We're tired of roomates and have bugun the home search. I feel almost positive that repossesed homes and forclosures are public information, but all searches yield results with '7 day trials' and 'one time fee of (bleh)'. Does anyone know where to find these listings or perhaps a good strategy or place to locate these homes?

Not a complete listing, but you can check with Housing and Urban Development in your area (they've got a website for here in Knoxville, prolly your town too). They are the ones that offer the federal loans for first-time homebuyers, and when people don't pay off those loans HUD sells the homes fairly cheap.

Be prepared though... when people know their homes are getting repossesed they tend to stop taking care of them. I went to some nasty places when shopping for my house, including one house that had been heated by a charcoal grill after the power got turned off.
