Are there any websites that provide license-free photos? I thought I had heard of a website that allows photographers to upload photos they want to provide license free. I, of course, am probably wrong.

Anyway, my goal is to be able to find photos of people and/or places and use them on my website without going to court some day.

Thanks,
Randy

Well, you could also use the Creative Commons search utility: http://search.creativecommons.org/

I know there's stock photography around, but I don't know if it's "license free" or not.

Most sites do have a ToU of some sort.

Moved to the Cafe as this isn't really a programming thread.

thanks for the repsonses. to be clear, I put this in the programming thread as I thought obtaining pictures was a programming related task. I don't mind, just wanted to explain.

Thanks for the help.

I'm a staff writer for a travel blog, and I usually get photos off Flickr Creative Commons (http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/).

Users upload their photos and allow others to use them for free.

IMPORTANT: Users give different levels of permission. I stick to photos with the "Attribution License," where all you have to do is give the photographer proper credit. Otherwise, you're free to use the photos any way you want.

Other licenses restrict for commercial use, making derivative works, etc. Choose wisely.
