I'd like to point out that there is an excellent map with the locations of all the registered members of Ubuntu Forums.

There are lots of Ubuntu users in the US and Europe, though it slows down when we reach Russia. Lots of users in the Phillipines as well from what I can see.

It's amazing that people in the northern parts of Canada and even some people on Greenland use Ubuntu, just as people in the middle of the atlantic and other great oceans are apparently using it ;)

I wonder why Spain seems to be not using Ubuntu as much as the rest of Europe - it's not like it's a sparsely populated country (look at how well Finland does for example!).

Spain has their own Linux distro

http://www.linex.org/

Based on Debian as well.

There was a special version of it distributed by Linux Magazine (March 2006 issue) that had lots of games on the DVD. The DVD also installs in English as well as default Spanish. I couldn't get the 3D drivers to work though so abandoned it.

there's a torrent on that page as well... :)

In fact, Linex is a distribution developed by the regional government of Extrematura; there's also another important regional distro: Guadalinex (http://www.guadalinex.org/), developed by the regional government of Andalucía, and based on Ubuntu.

But I don't think this is the reason. Firefox user rates in Spain are some of the lowest in Europe as well. I think this is a problem of computer knowledge, people don't seem to know/care how their computer works. In my opinion, it's more a problem of technical culture in my country than Ubuntu's fault...

Hats off to the north-most ubuntu user on the planet! :D
Apparently it's someone in the Northwest territory of Canada? Wow...

It took a lot of bandwidth and with the wonderful growth the forums have experienced it might have been too much for our poor servers to handle while still allowing good response times.
