Black screen after selecting Install

I see posts about black screens after installing... but I can't get that far.

I boot to the server install DVD. I select English and then Install Ubuntu Server. Screen goes black.

Same scenario but I select to check the disc for defaults and the same thing happens.

The same thing happens with a 10.10 desktop live DVD. The monitor goes to sleep.

Could it be an issue with the Radeon 9600? Is there a way to create an installation DVD (I don't have any blank CDs sitting around) that supports the card if it is the issue?

Solved:

Pressed F6 to access boot parameters and removed the line "vga=788"

Installing now.
