Infoworlds travesty of a geek test is only 20 questions that seem to assume we're all low level microsoft-centric amateur network engineers that watch ally mcbeal.

This is a total fail and IMO an affront to geekdom.

I got ~44% Major Geek

Send Yvette an email requesting Classical Greek be given consideration. She might add it in :)

39.11% - Major.

I grew up in another country and many things like Renaissance fair and Star Trek were not available to me until I came here. I should get bonus points for watching the entire Next Generation fifteen years after it first came out and having never seen anything, but the first season before.

I thought one of the definitions of a geek was someone who focuses on ONE thing "too much". For example computer geek, star trek geek, etc.
As such it would make sense for a "real geek" to score poorly since the test covers a wide variety of topics.

(Although when they asked about Python I got confused with the "Holy Grail" & "Life Of Brian" to be further confused when quizzed about "Air speed of Swallows") :D

Which is why you still get a rating of Major Geek for scoring under 50%

While I agree that 20 questions is a total fail, I fail to see how being a girl automatically makes you more of a geek.

Heh, I clicked back over to the site on the other chromium tab and was greeted with this (screenshot below). I hadn't moused over it before so it was pretty funny that happened right after I posted the above comment.

Regarding that, while the ratio of male:female geeks may be 10:1, that doesn't make a female any more geeky than a male, just more unlikely to be one. Take a male and female from birth to age 20, if both of them do exactly the same things at exactly the same times why would the female be any more geeky than the male? In that regard, would a male who gets a sex change to become a female get extra points? Would a female getting a sex change to become a male lose points?

The issue is that it mostly was about geekiness in comic books, etc. If it were about Linux, my guess would be 80%

Character stat bonus.

If they got the surgery because they are gender A trapped in gender B's body, then they get the points for their post-op gender.

If they did it to be more like their favorite sci-fi character, I'd imagine bonus points are in order.
