Is Symphony OS still alive? If it is, give that a try. They have their own desktop environment (Mezzo), based on quite different ideas than any other desktop UI.

Im tentated with ubuntu satanic edition, and you can upgrade your ubuntu to be satanic hehe, Ill keep that page in bookmarks, good satanic wallpapers, Im not satanic, but the customization and the wallpapers are great!!
