View Full Version : [SOLVED] 10.10 installer fails to boot - solution included

November 19th, 2010, 12:07 AM
When I tried booting my machine with the 10.10 installation setup on a flash drive, the system kept getting stuck at the "Ubuntu . . . . ." screen. After a bunch of fighting with it, and modifying the syslinux config, I discovered that for some odd reason 10.10 was trying to read the non-existent floppy drive on the machine. This exact machine had no problem with installing/booting/running 9.04 and 9.10 with the default BIOS settings.

10.10, on the other hand, requires that any floppy controllers be set to disabled or "none" in the BIOS if there is no floppy drive attached. After changing that setting, everything boots fine so far.
