View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installation and Partition Pain

November 17th, 2010, 09:07 PM
I installed 10.04 or 10.10 on my laptop, which also has a 200
GB USB drive attached.

Now, I am trying to go back and use the installer to repartition the disk.

I noted that the scan of the external drive took about an hour, because I was on a webinar while it was happening. It would be nice if Installer noticed and asked if I really intended to sit by for an hour while an external drive was scanned.

When I went into the partitioner, there was another scan of several minutes, and then when I downsized a partition on the internal drive from 76G to 46G, there was yet another lengthy scan on the external drive.

So, I know about this, and it's user error that I forgot to disconnect the drive, but it would still be nice if Ubuntu would help me out with some clue about what's most likely my intention, i.e. to NOT install on an external drive.

Thanks for any light or fixes on this.

I feel sorry for your troubles.

You can make feature request on Brainstorm.

Did you manage to disconnect your external HDD and install Ubuntu? Or there is another issue also?
