View Full Version : What's your avatar?

I've noticed there are lots of strange avatars. Some are easy to understand while others... could use some explaining for better understanding.

Why did you pick your avatar and, more importantly, what is it?

I went from having no avatar for a long time, to changing them every few months or so.

Is there anyone who doesn't know who Phyllis Diller is? Oh well. :)

Btw: I once had a photo of Vivian Stanshall, mustachioed and googly-eyed, as an avatar. Someone asked me "if I really looked like that" which gave me pause to consider both having a photo as an avatar which (some) people assume is yourself; and being female with an obviously male avatar (not that I'm sexist). Hence, P.D., at least for awhile.

Thank you for providing a name to google. As less than 4% of the world's population lives in the USA even with TV show exports not many people would know who it is.

My avatar Barney is a Cocker Spaniel, which breed is famous for its nasal and canine sensitivities making it a favourite of security forces worldwide. He can "smell a rat" (or cat) no matter how well disguised and protects me from the FUD in many posts.

Do you have any better pictures and or music played with it. I'm really familiar with both instruments.;) That is really cool.

My avatar is John Coltrane I played the tenor sax and John Coltrane was my biggest influence. I also play the fretless bass and others but John Coltrane is the man, for his amazing expression, and phenomenal technique.

Thanks! :) Ill have to dig some pics out. It is a 6 stringer tuned to NST (C-G-D-A-E-D) with the head cut off and the tuning pegs at the bottom on a shelf cut into the body, the thermin is just a pitch aerial with a volume knob rather than a coil for ease of playing. The guitar body is cut out to house it and it is detachable. Both guitar and thermin can be played together by sweeping your hand past the aerial when playing chords or by resting your hand on the body and rolling your hand towards it while solo picking ;)

With my 5 string fretless I detune the low E and use a c on the 5th.

I am indeed, I have 2 guitars in NST but I dont use the tuning with any band yet so I only really do stuff by myself with it. I have an other guitar in drop-C that Im playing in a band we are getting together, Im trying to persuade the guitarist to try NST ;)

I play a 4 string Curbow Bass for Not Rocket Science (see link in my sig) which is tuned to standard, a bit 'vanilla' compared to my other tunings LOL

It is actually a custom made, jazz bass body but a ebony fingerboard. It does have though standard Jazz bass pickups that were custom wound for a 5 string, 10 poles and a preamp.

I'm sorry, we can't, our missiles are weaker than their defenses and we'll have to wait until April to get the updated weaponry.

We can build the missiles ahead of time using our development apt-sources. Experimental, but so is anything designed to blow up! :)

April huh?

Well, their updates might not get finished until april....
[good chance]
Hence, they will be "frozen in the water",
So I still hold faith we can send them back to stardust before they become "fully operational"
(whatever that means for a MS class vessel)

Nightwishfan~ Sounds like a plan,
You head over to the weapons development bay,
I will meet you there in apprx. 30 earth minutes.
Let the experimentation begin! lol
