What is this instrument (http://www.flickr.com/photos/t0p/5171852772/) she's leaning on?

Think it is a Sousaphone .. in the marching and concert bands .. falls between Tuba and Trombone/French Horn.

WRONG .. Sousaphone is a Tuba
Pic is a Baritone Horn or Euphonium

Not sure, but it certainly doesn't look like a female who is leaning on it.

You think not? I took the photo some time ago, and I can't remember if the guy/gal was a guy or a gal. But the colour of her shoes, and the stuff she's got round her wrist makes me think she's female.

@oldsoundguy: thanks for that. The euphonium and the baritone horn look very much alike to my untutored eye, so I guess it'll remain an either...or... unless someone more intimate with brass can clarify the matter.

Think it is a Sousaphone.
The Sousaphone is bigger and leaner looker, one of the marching tuba options out there.

It's a baritone horn...

-edit- I'm wrong, it's a euphonium...

Trick question, just realized it. Its neither if i can read right, the intrument has no sex. Though the person is male.

Okay, I've added a poll to this thread, to sort out this gender thing once and for all. The point of the thread was to discover what instrument he/she/it was leaning on; but the fact that some of you assume he/she/it is a guy, while I assume he/she/it is a gal really puzzles me.

Please, can all of you who think he/she/it is a guy explain what it is about he/she/it that makes you think that? Cos I can't see anything particularly masculine about him/her/it.

That is a Euphonium. I know only because I play one. A Bb one in gold made by Yamaha. It is my second year playing it. As for either guy/girl, IDK because you cannot see anything well on iPod touch screen. (We have the original 8gb one)

Ehh... I'm leaning more towards guy. The colors of his/her shoes, shirt, and bracelet are girlier, but he/she doesn't seem to have a waste.

But should it matter? I mean, can't you just re-name the picture?

Arm structure, veins, finger structure along the knuckles. The position of the pants and underwear and accountancy of the rope belting which is popular in mens casual clothes, especially in highschool. Though I do consider the shoes and leg positioning along the hip to be a dead giveaway.

My giveawys are the man-hands, with man-nails (not many girls have nails that short, or that shape), the 'visible underpants' look, and they sure look like boy nickers :P

BTW, I see guys with braclets like that quite often. A lot of them are homosexual (or at least bi) but I do see some who are hetrosexual with them as well. I think.

euphonium

You are correct, as a actual player of said instrument confirmed. I hated marching band, refused to be any part of it.

It's a guy. Just look at the hands. Just because he's wearing pink shoes doesn't make him a girl, just makes him some kind of emo.

Hairy arms. Gross disrespect of a musical instrument. Must be a bloke.

If it weren't for the shoes and bracelets, there would be no question at all that this is a guy. Other people have already given the physical reasons for that.

Is it really surprising to you that there are guys who wear girly things? I wouldn't be caught wearing stuff like that, but the physical features are way more proof to me than shoes and a bracelet. Besides, all of the other articles of clothing look more like a man.

I think I'm going to change the title of the photo. Something like "Leaning on a euphonium". That'll side-step the gender issue and reflect my growing knowledge of brass instruments.

That was taken at the Red Marley Veteran Motorbike Hill Climb 2010 (http://www.mikrotime.com/enduro/rmarley10.html). A wonderful event.

Looks remarkably like a hill climb event I went to many years ago in Wiltshire - and no it's not the muddy hills ;)

Thanks t0p

For anyone who likes to look at veteran motorcycles, here's a link (http://www.flickr.com/photos/t0p/sets/72157625082326481/) to the set of photos I took at the hill climb.

I agree. Also, I haven't seen very many women, in my half a century of observation, with a figure like that. I converted the image to gray-scale to eliminate the possible bias due to colour, and it reinforced my opinion that it is a guy.

She is playing on a euphonium, a heavy musical instrument. Hence the muscular forearm.

Hmmm, more precisely, on a 3 Valve Euphonium. ;)
