I'd like some help with this other connotation of Black Friday, because last November there was a Friday 13th, ie. Black Friday, but the next time Friday falls on the 13th of the month is not until May as far as I know. Just one next year too.

May I ask for the definition of this other kind of Black Friday?

I'll be sitting at home with a nice cup of coffee, not bothering to buy anything. There be no Black Friday 'ere, and I've never really understood it. Hey, I have a great idea! Let's all go shopping in hordes of thousands!? Bleh.

I was forced to use a search engine, and found this-

Black Friday is the Friday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday) following Thanksgiving Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_%28United_States%29) in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), traditionally the beginning of the Christmas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas) shopping season.

Black friday......for the rest of the world, its a friday the 13th. For the US, its a day to go into the red.

BTW, I'm buying nothing! Nada! Nil! Zip! Zero! *thinks* OK, maybe food, depends on whats in cupboard that day.

Thanks very much for your help Cascade. Personally, I reckon there's enough bad luck days in this world already, without the need to manufacture new ones, but it's nice to know that it's not a global phenomenon.

Be careful with the android tablets, I've seen alot of stores selling ones with android 1.x

Android 2.2 is the most up-to-date.

It's pretty much the same (or close to it) as "Boxing Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day)" isn't it?

That's when we have all our sales in the UK - between 'Boxing Day' and New Year.

I've known people leave at 6am to go to retail parks just to get things cheaper, I can never be bothered with it

Same here. I recall some stores opening at 4 or 5am and people would get there at 2 or 3 to get in line just to get the deals. I think they're crazy.

I don't do Black Friday because I just don't have the patience, but my wife likes to go with friends... I'd rather stay at home with the kiddos :)

I have gotten some deals later in the day though, like a good number of years ago when Palm OS was still the rage I went to Best Buy during lunch on Black Friday and picked-up a Palm Vx for next to nothing. But that's about it.

lol @ the "i'm not going to buy anything because i'm too cool for crowds" peanut gallery.

#1 - i don't have the patience and i value my life. people have gotten killed at these things. no thanks.
#2 - i try to get my christmas shopping done prior to thanksgiving.
#3 - most of the "deals" on black friday aren't really deals at all.
#4 - Black Friday happened in 1929.

Black Friday crowds are too dam crazy for me. Countless times you hear about people getting trampled, injured, etc. all for saving a small amount of $$$. It's a shame.

I heard some stores will offer the same Black Friday prices online, so I'll check that out.

What I want? Looking for laptop for $250, & some video game steals. The forums @ cheapassgamer are a big help.

No kidding. It's just insane how nuts people will gets over saving a tiny bit a $$.

If I'm going to buy anything I'll wait for Cyber Monday or not buy anything at all. :P

I troll Amazon.com for their thanksgiving sales and post flaimbaits on their product discussion pages.

I haven't seen anything worth getting. Saving up for going to Korea next year, so I'd rather not get frivolous.

However, I am in need of an Android phone if Verizon is crazy enough to put them on sale, so I would actually go for that. But otherwise, I'm staying at home.

I second that mention for an Android phone. My current plan is with Verizon too, but I'm tempted by T-Mobile. Since T-Mobile uses GSM technology, I'd be able to use my smartphone outside the U.S. Just need to swap out the SIM card.

The HTC Android phones look pretty slick, I must say. Which one has a slide-out physical keyboard? I'd love to have the feature.

I am from South East Asia so I don't have any clue about black friday. So maybe I just download some Distro to try.
