My current webhost, Proaxxs web solutions kicked me out yesterday due to high cpu usage for the 3d time this year. Im currently negotiating on getting my data back.

Does anyone know any good webhosts I can use?

Edit: and it looks like their sworn to hate me. I guess an entire site redesign is (again) in progress....
Luckily, all my blog posts are backed up to posterous and tumblr

I don't know if they would be any different, but I have been using 1and1.com for many years.

I am curious, if I may ask, what kinda web apps are you running that would be spiking their cpus?

My friend Zash owns MyBBwebhost, it would work great even if you don't need or want MyBB :P

Joe another friend, works at http://www.gigenetcloud.com/ but thats servers.

I've been told to refer http://www.rackspacecloud.com/ Though i've had nothing but troubles.

The only one i personally have used, is dreamhost. My friend had a 100 off coupon for a two year package if you wish to go that way.

My suggestions are
1) To avoid using a webhost that has a business relationship with your domain registrar.
2) To have a full backup of the site and any related data on a computer unrelated to the webhost.

I use http://evohosting.co.uk; (https://www.evohosting.co.uk/clients/aff.php?aff=484) It's UK based(clearly) and they're really cheap for what they offer.

I've hosted friend's websites i've made for them on there aswell as my own and it's a great service. Every time i've asked for help from them they've replied within a few minutes. Maybe I got lucky mind. :P

I've never experienced any down-time and their servers always seem to be running at a great speed.

It was less than £50 for 2 years hosting with a free domain name, which is incredibly cheap in my opinion. :)

Check out their website. :)

I use 000webhost (http://www.000webhost.com/), which is free, and awesome :) The features and bandwidth you get for a free host is incredible. Another 5 odd dollars gets you unlimited bandwidth, ftp accounts etc etc.

They've been solid as a rock for me :)

YES! They have been great to me since July 2008, and now I've taken the plunge and gone to the paid hosting, but after so many websites over the years, I can't remember what I wanted to do in the first place anymore. At least they only cost me $25 for three months to keep me online, but if you want to be dynamic, give 000webhost.com a try. They're a very professional outfit.

Also like to mention:

The paid version of the already great free hosting from 000webhost.

I suppose it's also worth asking whether you want a VPS or Webhosting as discussed above.

It's probably worth looking into, though you would have to setup/manage it all yourself as well I suppose :p

I think HostGator and 1and1 have already been mentioned, but I use both of these and have had no problems. Or go for the gold and grab a VPS from Linode.

ooh, 1and1 actually looks good, since it has git.
the last one I used that had some form of vcs was dreamhost, and they were horribly slow...
now, just to wait for HE Hosted DNS to come back online and im set. (not really, since I have to redo my site...)

I use 0000free (http://0000free.com/index.html) for my hosting. They're a great webhost and the price is really attractive.

You get PHP, Perl/CGI, ASP.NET, X/HTML, all of the different CMSes (minus Joomla due to security concerns regarding that CMS,) cPanel X (with a beautiful theme) and so much bandwidth (10GB for free basic, 20GB for free advanced) without paying a thing. They're experiencing a DDOS attack on their newest server, Apex, right now though, so new registrations are seldom accepted until their Sysop fixes it.

What is ::1?

if you know ipv6.... well youl know what that means.

besides, I don't have any spare bandwidth.
I was thinking of upgrading my internet to full T1 speed last month, but it seems to have gone a bit pricey..

I've been researching this topic over at webhostingtalk.com. Here are a few web hosts that seem to get consistently positive reviews:

HostGator (http://www.hostgator.com/)

HawkHost (http://www.hawkhost.com/)

WebFaction (http://www.webfaction.com/) - more programmer-oriented compared to the first two.

Good luck!

If you're gonna pay for it then I recommend HostGator.
If it's free you're looking for then 000webhost.

My advice, go for a VPS. They're very cheap. Check the ones featured on one of the forums around here, x% off for for lifetime for Ubuntu users.

I've used 1and1 and Hostgator in the past. Both are fine hosts. I currently run several sites on a VPS with LiquidWeb. Have had nothing but good experiences with them.
