VLC is my media player and for every indivual song chosen it opens a new windows. It's very annoying, is there anything I can do to make it stick to one window?

I experienced this problem when I first got Ubuntu, I couldn't find a fix and ended up switching to using Rythmbox. Is this an option for you?

in vlc preferences(some where from the menu), check the box 'allow only one instance' or something like that. should fix it

Go to Tools - Preferences and check "Allow only one instance" as Verbeck says. That should do it. You can also select Enque files when in one instance mood so it won't stop playing one song when you select another. For me it was right on the first page that opened.

the setting to 'only one instance' worked!
Had to go to the tools pref. advance view and it should be there! THanks
