Hello, all. I need help for my problem. I am a new Ubuntu user and I tried to install Avast. It couldn't run and show me a message telling that "VPS was destroyed" so I couldn't enter my license key. What's wrong with this? Should I install Avast when I am online? Can I fix this offline? Thanks....

9.04 is unsupported, so before doing anything else I would do a clean install of 10.04 or 10.10.

Avast is for Windows only, AFAIK.

To be honest, unless you are sharing files with Windows users or running a mail server there is really no need for an antivirus programs on Ubuntu. In any event, these programs "for Linux" are mostly looking for Windows viruses which have no effect in Ubuntu anyway.

However, the decision is yours. I refer you to some links with more information:

I'm inclined to agree here. Avast, IMHO will just be dead weight on your Linux partition. It really serves no purpose. If you feel better with an anti-virus on Ubuntu...use clamav & clamtk.
