I'm looking to move over from Mandriva to Ubuntu.

Is there a nice safe, tidy way I can do that?

Tips anyone?

My users and data are already on separate partition. Can I simply install ubuntu, add it to grub and 'pick up' by existing user accounts and data from Ubuntu.

I'm sure life isn't quite that simple!

I don't believe you can because there are different configuration files in each distro, or locations of those files. For instance, I fix sound in Ubuntu differently than in PCLinuxOS so I am sure it is different again in Mandriva. What you can do, though, is copy your files (.doc, MP3, jpg, etc) so as to not lose those.

The down side is you'll have to reconfigure again in Ubuntu and download any non-repo apps again. But enjoy the repos...they are huge!!

Good luck and welcome.

Are you really suggesting that I can't transfer things like my evolution mailbox?

If that is correct that's seriously bad news!

Any more helpful hints anyone?
