How do I change the default scrollbar width in ubuntu 10.10? I tried this but it doesn't seem to work on 10.10: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=255065

Should it work on 10.10?

It works great for me. I just needed to restart applications to take an effect.

are you sure you are using ubuntu 10.10, I tried this again, still not working.

I have since found a way of improving the desktop, I increased the DPI to make everything al ittle bigger, still not entirely happy, may try out mythbuntu or similar

install gnome-color-chooser from synaptic or
sudo apt-get install gnome-color-chooser

Then launch: System->Preferences->GNOME Color Chooser
Under Tab: Specific, you can change the scroll bar width. Then Click Apply.

It should affect almost all software. I have noticed that Firefox doesn't get affected.
