Hi,

Got a new Vaio Y series U5400 HM55 chipset this week. Tried to install ubuntu 64 and 32 (alternate installer).

For the normal 64 installer, had the blank screen problem that is common in this forum. Used nomodoset and that did the job, until booting normally, and can not get to log in screen.

The trackpad is not working either - had to use an external mouse.

Then with the 32 bit alternate installer - more or less the same problem after installation. My computer knowledge is good but not great. I am guessing it is a lack of support of Intel HD graphics. Wondering when we might see better support on this?

I installed fedora which had no problems - trackpad works - monitor works. Only thing is resolution is a lot lower - I think this would be the equivalent of the vesa solution in ubuntu - it did it automatically.
