Issues with installing Kubuntu 10.10

I have downloaded the amd64 version of Kubuntu 10.10. I tried to start the install process and the only thing that happens is a black screen on my monitor. I see and hear the cd drive working and sending data to the hard drive but I cant see anything to begin the installation. What gives? Any help is appreciated.

Not to make you sound stupid, but are you sure that your computer supports the amd64 architecture?

LOL yes it is a dual core amd64 chip with supported m/b. I even tried the 386 version and it does the same thing.
