I've done this before and managed to fix it but can't remember how.

For some odd reason right click automatically opens up folders etc or tabs in my browser. If an item is highlighted right click automatically opens it. If it's not highlighted I have to click, hold & release the button to get the menu else it also opens.

This is driving me nuts.

Seems I'm not alone from the comments.

While I use click and hold for r. click context (then select/execute on mouse up/release), you can get the the context menu to 'stand' by using a r. click 'tap' instead of a r. click 'push'

It's more likely to open on r. click push on my desktop w/ a razor mouse (high dpi) then on a laptop.

At least here the cursor is always in the menu so something is always highlighted (as compared to windows where the cursor is always outside of the menu). which also adds to the possibility of an unintended action

Edit: or enable the sim. secondary click and just use the left button, shortest time is about 1 sec. (when cursor changes fully). Then a release will only open the context menu, not exec.

I installed Macbuntu just to check it out and it somehow fixed my mouse issue. Wonder if the mouse issue will remain once I uninstalled Macbuntu...
