When I was a kid, I had a friend who had an interesting mystery "puzzle" book (actually a collection of short stories). Each story would be three to five pages long and would ask the reader at the end to solve the mystery. After the reader came up with his solution, he could check it with an answer in the back of the book (or maybe at the end of the story). Does anyone have an idea what this book or type of book was called?

We called those books "Brain Teasers". I Googled on brain teasers books and found quit a few.

That helped. I typed in mystery brain teasers and came up with this: http://www.amazon.com/Five-Minute-Mini-Mysteries-Stan-Smith/dp/1402700318/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1289324904&sr=8-9 and this http://www.amazon.com/Wicked-Whodunits-Dr-Quicksolve-Mini-Mysteries/dp/1402727933/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1289324904&sr=8-8

Thank you.
