The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:
[Errno 5] Input/output error
This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment."
I'm getting this when I try to install Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit on my desktop.
I've tried it 4 times. It seems to be installing now.
What i did differently:
Selected for it to use the entire hard drive instead of partitioning it myself.
Took the front of my case off and turned a fan on pointing at the CD drive.
Why I did that:
Other people were saying the error meant there was a problem with the partition(s) and/or the CD drive overheating.
This could just be luck of the draw. Has anyone else gotten this error on Ubuntu 10?
