I had a dell inspirion 6000 with XP, one day while restarting, it would not go to Windows Logo, on start up, just a flashing cursor. I removed the HDD and installed in External case. Now I have a new computer with is sata only, my HDD is Pata. I am trying to install Ubuntu on the drive to use with Pata drive. I have a Ide to usb adapter attached to the Pata drive. I do not want to remove Windows, in case I can fix and reinstall in my Dell later. But I want to use it for now with my new computer, and to try Ubuntu out. I can not start in Windows to install Ubuntu, and when the computer starts, it just keeps trying to start as windows. Can anyone help?
