I'm working on fixing a friend's computer, and when WIndows XP doesn't work for this reason and for that reason (graphics issues and inability to connect with ethernet or a USB wifi dongle)I decide to try Ubuntu on it, since I have had a good experience with it.

So I pop the CD for 10.10 Maverick in and boot it up, wait awhile, and then it asks me if I would like to try Ubuntu or just skip ahead to the installation.

If I wait too long or click ether button, the screen will freeze, vibrate with different colors, and then eventually be completely blocked out by what looks like a small, repeated texture (it is different every time). What do?

Other things you should know:

HP Pavillion a6333w Desktop with 3 GB RAM
Problem occurs on both 32- and 64-bit install CDs.
