After two years of Gnome I've only just started using KDE versions of a few distros, currently Kubuntu 10.04. My Toshiba laptop, a dual core 1.6 ghz machine with 2gb ram, Intel 965 graphics, handles Vista, XP and 7 well and the Gnome and XFCE Linuxes, but it is a bit laggy with KDE, with the animations etc. I remember slight judders with Gnome Ubuntu 9.04 and there being a line that could be added to xorg.conf to smoothe things. Can something similar be done with Kubuntu?

Using the system monitor the laptop doesn't seem to be struggling at all, seldom going above .3 gb of RAM or 20% of the CPU.

I did try 10.10 as well but it seems very buggy and the further changes were irritating, so I'd rather stick with the LTS.

All help appreciated.
