I recently switched my netbook back to ubuntu desktop after the following issues:
1. Internet would unpredicatably become very slow and would not improve for any logical reason (while my machine running ubuntu desktop on wireless was fine)
2. The screen kind of freaked out. The bottom half of the desktop was blue and distorted. I don't even use the gui on ubuntu netbook so I don't think this was something I did. Never happened on ubuntu desktop.
3. The interface actually took up more screen real estate than how I use desktop. Not being able to hide the top bar was a pain and when windows take full screen I don't want to see any bars anywhere!
I am posting because I bet things can be done about most of these things and I thought people might want to discuss what they have done for these or similar issues. I would also like to hear any issues other people have had.
