Dear All,

As I worked at an institution, which has a policy to limit the amount of files downloaded from the Internet, I could not download ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso because the iso file-size beyond the limit. Every time I tried to download the file, on my browser, following error message appears: The request or reply is too large. I am wondering if there any site where I can download in some small files. Another thing: since I received the error using http protocol, I wonder if a ftp protocol will be able to circumvent the barrier. For your information, I particularly need Ubuntu 8.10 because I need to run certain software, which has been tested on the version. Thank you very much for your advice.

Best regards,

Sibun

Hey
First of all, a very old version of ubuntu.
Also, you can download it from a torrent.

Thank you. Forget to tell you that torrents did not work. I could try a newer version if there any in small pieces.

try the minimal install, and build it up from there. Here's a guide.

the initial download is about 25 megabytes. Then you build it up to a basic GUI. This should be all you need to run one piece of software. Later on you can install ubuntu-desktop and get the whole thing.
