Absolute beginner here. I have Compaq presario C500 with ubuntu 10.10 from downloaded Cd. I let the software overwrite the vista OS on install.
Wireless OK but camped out on unsecured network to post this!!
Vodafone K3520 dongle plugged in and just flashes 3g available. Nothing happens on the PC, almost as if it does not exist.

I searched a few forum posts and did a dmesg and lsusb, appended below.

I set up a vodafone mobile connect in network but still nothing happens.
The dongle worked on this PC with windows and works on 2nd PC with windows vista, so am sure of the dongle!

Any advice welcome, as I am scratching around. Vodafone are just NOT interested......time for a change there maybe...lol:smile:

Stuff I have read seems to indicate that the OS will recognition the dongle when plugged in and bring up a wizard but that just does not happen. Would I be better going for 9.10 instead?

Regards...Paul

Fixed by reference to dj-toonz fix as follows

open a terminal up

Applications , Accessory , Terminal

then copy & paste these

sudo rmmod usb-storage

sudo modprobe -r option

sudo modprobe -r usbserial

sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001

sudo pppd ttyUSB0

Did not think it had done anything but then when I plugged in the dongle and right clicked on the network symbol top right it was there and connected instantly.. Well done that man!!!
