Ubuntu 10.10 installation error

started with a usb drive and set up the Ubuntu installer with UNetbootin. During installation constantly receive error Input/output and doesn't let me ignore or retry when tried to cancel went and formatted my drive only to tell me that there was an error trying to install Ubuntu and shuts down. please help

Dell latitude D600
Intel Pentium M 1.6 Ghz
30 gb hard drive

Test the USB key for errors; when you boot from it, right after the bios you see a keyboard logo at the bottom. Press any key. YOu will get a menu and one of the options is the test the isntallation disc for errors. Run that.

If the USB key is fine, the most likely explanation is that your harddrive is dead.

Thanks it turns out that my hard drive is completly fried i will get a new one and try again thanks again
