I'm looking for a new TV show to watch. I seem to be caught up in everything I currently enjoy. So I need some suggestions please!

I am fine with old shows, or canceled ones even. I enjoy to go back and find old episodes and stuff so anything you think is good please suggest. Of course I also like more modern stuff.

Shows I already follow and have seen include Supernatural, Boston Legal, Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, The Sopranos, Lie To Me, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Criminal Minds, and all the Law & orders.

I've tried the CSI's and Dexter and didn't really get into them much.

Any other suggestions would be awesome though.. thanks guys!

Ha ha I opened this thread to propose fringe. Fringe is very good.

Sons of Anarchy is one of my favorites.

Battelstar Galactica (4 seasons with proper ending)
The West Wing (7 seasons with proper ending)
Commander in Chief (1 season)
Fringe (airing)
The Big Bang Theory (airing)
Modern Family (airing)
Weeds (airing)

I read that "The Event" is really good too.

BTW, I can't stand CSI and Law & Order franchises anymore. In fact, any procedural that starts with a crime and ends with the husband, the business partner or the jealous girlfriend being the murderer is on my blocklist.

I'm quite partial to British comedy shows:
Peep Show
That Mitchel and Webb look
Quite Interesting
The IT Crowd
Only Fools and Horses

Check also the Canadian The Red Green Show for some of the most hilarious moments in tv history.

I was going to suggest Dexter but apparently you already tried it.
I don't have much time to watch TV series anymore, but I remember seeing a British teen drama called Skins that was actually pretty good (at least the first season). It was different from the other American teen dramas that I saw (just a couple of episodes, I'm not a big fan of the genre).

If you like comedy I recommend Futurama. :D

I'm looking forward to watch The Walking Dead, the trailer looked cool. Maybe you should check that one if you like zombies.

Cheers

Can't believe nobody mentioned The Wire. Every copshow looks like a bad, silly cartoon after this.

My current fave is Ideal, a surreal bbc comedy about drug dealing in Salford, Manchester.

... and of course, it's never a bad time for a revision of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

If you're interested in comedy with an actual message, My Name is Earl is brilliant. It was stupidly canceled last year after four seasons. (I have all four seasons' DVD sets. :))

If you like Lie to Me, you'll like The Mentalist, too.

I read that "The Event" is really good too.

The Event is awesome. Probably my favorite show now that Lost and 24 are gone.

I watched the first two episodes of The Event on TV myself a few nights ago and then i cheated a bit and downloaded the next four.
I actually got fed up with the likes of Lost & Prison break after the first couple of seasons though so we`ll see if this does any better.

+1 for Fringe. As for older shows: Twin Peaks, Fawlty Towers. Both a bit old but very good. But this is just my taste, yours maybe entirely different.

Try Entourage, it's something different from what you like it seems, but you may like it.

If you like cop/crime shows at all you'll love The Wire. I hate that genre but The Wire kicks ***.

Sci fi-wise...Fringe is kind of fun but Battlestar Galactica is a must see, even if you're not into sci fi.

Northern Exposure is kind of old now but you'll love it. One of the original 'dramedies.'

Don't forget to catch up on the adult swim toons from the cartoon network...Metalocalypse, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and the Tim and Eric Awesome show are great.

oh man... I loved Northern Exposure back in the day!

The wire has been mentioned enough times here that I think I need to check it out for sure!

5. Macgyver

For new show
1. Fringe
2. V
3. Lost girls
4. No ordinarily family
5. Spartacus (18x)

If you don't mind watching some older shows that only lasted a short run, check out:
- The Lone Gunmen (spin-off from X-Files)
- Journey Man
- New Amsterdam
- Firefly

I'll be honest, Journey Man was amazing, though the first episode was kind slow. The character and plot development was amazing, but it is dropped mid-season due to the writer's strike so the storyline is never finished. Leaves a few things open, but it's still the most amazing show i've seen in years.

All these replies and no one mentioned HOUSE. M.D. ?!!!!! I think it's one of the best shows on tv ever made. My top recommendations are:

1- House M. D. (I particularly LOVE seasons 1, 3, 5).
2- Family Guy (You've got to love Stewie & Brian).
3- South Park.

On another note, I just got one of these (http://www.roku.com) and I'm really enjoying Netflix and HuluPlus streaming to my TV, I cancelled the cable.

You didn't like Dexter? :| ! That one is right near the top for me. I didn't like it much at the first two or three episodes but then you get hooked after the introductions are done. Its a fantastic show.

Honestly, of all the shows I've ever watched in all my life, I would have to put House right at the top personally, right now I limit myself to 4 shows:

1. House
2. Dexter
3. The Big Bang Theory
4. How I met your mother

Though I'm considering starting Fringe, I did watch one new episode and I enjoyed it. It might be worth giving a watch, especially seeing as its been recommended quite a few times here on this thread.

Firefly - is my first choice. Only ran for one season. The whole season is available on netflix streaming. EDIT: This series was epic. For anyone that likes scifi its required watching.
Farscape - I missed out on this while it was aring. Great series. Also available for streaming on netflix.

BBC has a new Sherlock Holmes series that's airing on PBS now. I haven't seen it yet but it's getting good reviews (it's set in modern times but is not cheesy, apparently). I'm interested as I was a huge fan of their last Sherlock Holmes series...

That's not exactly new seeing it's from 1984 but it's still VERY good though ;)

Unless you are talking about the newer series called Sherlock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_(TV_series)) which is not the same as in the Youtube link you provided.

I thought that was evident from the way I worded my post. Yes, fond of Jeremy Brett in that old series that wasn't set in modern times, might have to give Benedict Cumberbatch (??!?) a chance in this new one...

I didn't realize they've only made three episodes though, if I like it I hope more will follow.

I have to agree that Battlestar Galactica (from 2004-2009) was really excellent, I hadn't heard about Caprica (which I just discovered) and I can't believe it's already canceled, but they have the some episodes online, don't know if they are U.S. only, and I'm definitely going to make time for it!...

Season 1.5 of Caprica is running right now! It's ok...no BSG.

I just watched Spartacus which, after a rough start, is pretty fun as a comicbookish take on the historical figure (think 300 but with lower production values). Get ready for lots of nudity and violence though.

'The walking dead' is a new zombie tv show on amc. The first episode just aired. Its based on the comic which is a good read. Its about everyday survival and doesn't shy away from the gruesome aspects of zombies and rotting flesh.

Thumbs Up for The Wire, The Big Bang Theory & The Event.

I was getting into Flash Forward, till it got canceled (hate when networks do that).

For comedy...2 1/2 Men is getting crappy, but the old episodes are good. Same with The Office. It's not a great comedy, but I like watching Outsourced on NBC. Family Guy, The Cleveland Show & Modern Family are a must for me.

For video games, I like watching X-Play.

For informational shows, I love Frontline & Nova on PBS.

Only two seasons, but I would suggest HBO's Rome.

I have to give a +1 to House (even though I have not watched it myself my wife has been watching it not stop the last few weeks)...

Chuck (she loved this too)

British comedy wise you can try: Black Books :)

And if you haven't watched them yet, BSG is a must, and Heroes also has (had) its moments... even if you just watch it for Hiro its OK...

+1 for Frontline and Nova. Last week's Frontline on the build up to the Deepwater Horizon disaster was heart breaking.

Best show ever. I wish it wasn't over.

Lost started off promisingly, spiralled off into irrelevancy, came back hard, then ended really really stupidly. I mean, they all go to a party in heaven and (after-)live happily ever after? Bah!!

I recommend Brit show "Skins". Also, The Wire. But you've been told that already.
