Hi and welcome to the forums :)

I am sorry that your post received no attention before.

I don't know the answer to your question, but here is what I can suggest:

download another image:
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

check the integrity:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

burn the image to CD or USB:
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download (same page has instructions)

Try to start the CD or USB; make sure to allow booting from the device in BIOS before you start

Tell us more about the specifications for the laptop especially graphics and sound card.

I hope this helps you get further.

Good luck!

Sounds like you got a bad image to put on your computer. You should download another image, then if that still doesn't work, download an older version of the os, that should work. I had an Xubuntu installation that wouldn't work on the cd, even though I downloaded it 2-3 times and put it on there. I finally downloaded an older version, and it worked like a charm!
