I wanted to try translating the Inkscape docs/tutorials bundled with the application to polish. Where should I send it afterwards? To the dev ;) ?

you can send them to the ubuntu devs on luanchpad or give them to me and can pass them on to the inkscape devs.
thirdly you can add them to the patch tracker (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=93438&atid=604308)for inkscape

I think a good place to start would be http://www.gnomepl.org/FrontPage

actually since Inkscape has no direct ties with Gnome and its translating community the patch tracker is probably best.

The translation team would still be able to help with peer review and hints - also generally the teams tend to take care of software outside of GNOME core as well, it's absolutely best to avoid stepping on the toes of anyone who might actively be maintaining the translation else where.. a bit of research can save you tons of time and effort aside giving you friendly people to help you.
