I am absolutely loving 10.4. Everything is working perfectly, I am able to get lots of work done, and the operating system is, as it should be, the last thing that I think of when I use my computer. Sound, Video, Chatting, and Java are all working just fine for me.

SO.... how is 10.10 doing. Should I upgrade from 10.4? Is it the thing to do, or is it a little early in the life cycle of 10.10 to be making the change. (I had a bad experience when I upgraded to 9.4 and wished I had held off while some bugs were squashed.

What is the Community opinion of 10.10???

I have it on a test install and it looks and runs clean, but I am sticking with the LTS for a while.

There are just a few new things. The only thing i upgraded is for sound applet and the new software versions. I still have a machine with 10.04 and both are very stable. The new Software Centre simply ROCKS! In the end, if you are happy now stick with it, but if you feel a need for adventure or just want to try it give it a go, it won't hurt.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 right now, and I love it. It works great for me and I didn't have to do much out of the box to get it the way I like it. I say, if you are happy with 10.04(.1), stay with it. If you want to try Ubuntu 10.10. I would try a Live USB / Live CD to see how well it works. If you like it (and it works good for you), I would install it.

Solid for me , I'm happy. No more randomly disappearing title bars . I have not experienced any of the problems I've seen reported here.

If you are happy with Lucid stay with it. If you want to try the cutting edge go for Maverick or at least download it and try it on a live CD. Many of us do not want to update every 6 months so the LTS is the OS for us, but the excitement of cutting edge technology is there for the taking and it's all free.

well I was in the same shoes you were and I decided to upgrade. 10.04 worked great for me and 10.10 runs a bit better. It was a flawless install but it's not that much different then 10.04.

So should you upgrade? Take a look at the changes and ask yourself if the changes are worth a few hours of your time.

Except for a minor glitch with suspend/hibernate that I managed to fix, no problems so far...
I can't say that it's better or worse than 10.04 though, the experience is similar for me.

I am a big fan of it. My Nokia E73 stops working on USB tethering but besides that everything works perfect. Even suspend and hibernate on inspiron 1420n preloaded dell ubuntu laptop which I am happy to see. Love it!

If 10.04 is working fine for you, why upgrade?

I upgraded to .10 because .04 didn't have the drivers for the touchpad on my Asus. .10 does, and now my computer is doing everying I need it to, but .04 would have been just fine if my touchpad worked.

In other words: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well, I've been using 10.04 and it works for me for what I'm comfortable with doing on Linux at the moment.

Lovin' it! Its the best release that ever ran in my laptop. On the other hand I'm experimenting some problems in my netbook with the Netbook Edition (Unity has only a few days), and I hope it gets fixed eventually. Nothing important anyway. So yes, I feel really good about 10.10 so far, it is 10 out of 10. :P

tested a dist upgrade as well as a new install, both machines have been very very stable.... I think it's what 10.04 should of been (had nothing but problems there, which is bad for an LTS release)

10.10 is brill, but if you're on 10.04 LTS I see no need to go to 10.10 unless you need something specific, not much is different, i usually leave a 1 year gap before considering changing versions.

10.10 is the worlds most advanced operating system finely tuned. :)

Openbox on Xubuntu 10.10 64bit is just the same, maybe a little slower boot, than 10.04, but still way cool.

Buggy, I've got a Nvidia card and an Intel X58 chip set, so it's buggy. I've worked through the gotcha's and so far so good.

As for the Netbook edition, Unity really blows. v10.04 of the Netbook edition was excellent, the interface very smart, well laid out and fast. The new "Unity" interface is cludgy, buggy as all hell, slow and is a mess. I'm trying the suggestion in the forums here to try remove Unity and go back to the v10.04 desktop. If that doesn't work I'm going back to v10.04.

It's pretty stable and a nice interface for the Software Centre, but not a huge improvement over 10.04. You can stick with Lucid until 11.04, I'd say.

So how does everyone feel about 10.10

I guess the correct answer is "Every body feels differently".

For everyone who thinks 10.10 was a bad release, wait to see 11.04 when they made the huge change to Unity all across. There is no way that they will be able to get this right the first time.

Not thrilled or really upset with it. It's just...there...I'm a little bummed suspend/hibernate no longer works on my laptop (it didn't in Lucid either), and my desktop keyboard and mouse will stop working if I hit the ctrl + T keys, which makes me have to drop into a terminal, log in, then ctrl+alt+F7 back to the desktop. (Same thing happened in Lucid) It wouldn't be that bad and I could deal with it, but I have a non-tech-savvy husband who wants everything to just work, and these two issues are big for him. :-(

I am unsure of my status on 10.10; I have mixed feelings about it.

Positive Changes: Updated Kernel. Otherwise, none really. To me, it is the same thing as 10.04.

Negative Changes: Instead of F-spot, Shotwell is used. Also, Gimp is not preinstalled. These things are not that bad for me. I could just easily go to the repository and get these things and remove shotwell.

Problems Encountered: This is what is giving me mixed feelings: Somewhat random freezes. I'm pretty sure this isn't happening with everyone else, but I am experiencing this problem when I watch youtube videos for a prolonged amount of time. It seems as if the Flash Plugin that gets installed when you get the Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras package isn't so good (at least for me). So this isn't necessarily the O.S.'s fault.

Basically, nothing "wow's" me in 10.10, it is just as good as 10.04.

Installed 10.10, was nice to see apart from Software Sources had been hidden in the menu, but that was an easy fix. I decided to go back to 10.04 as I don't wish to upgrade every six months, this will be the first time I've decided to stay with LTS releases and I'm happy.

Its pretty much the same....i wouldn't upgrade. The new sound applet is kinda cool, but nothing to upgrade over.
