I recently downloaded ubuntu 10.10 and installed it from my flashdrive like a live cd
When i went to install it to my harddrive, It goes to the screen titles "preparing to install Ubuntu"
I hit forward and it freezes. Any help?

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

What graphics card do you have installed and how much RAM does the system have available?

Also, see here:

exact same problem here.. read through the link Rubi sent but I don't think the same issue is addressed. I am running/installing from a USB flash drive. I can install the trial version but not the full install.. same hanging at same time.. I am trying to make the switch away from windows dependency!!

The info on my Thinkpad T43 is as follows: http://www.lenovo.com/i/c.gif P M 750(1.8GHz), 512MB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HDD, 15in 1024x768 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X300, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

I've upgraded the RAM to 1.5Gig

One thing that is wierd (and not sure if connected), when I do run the trial install the GParted application does not run.. it starts then looks like it is checking the drives then crashes and the crash handler at the top right comes up.

Apologies for being such a newbie but we all start somewhere right.. and thanks loads in advance for any help

Bump. On a System76 Starling Netbook that used to run 10.04 UNR fine, now trying to install either Desktop or Netbook yields the situation described above.
