Hello,

I want to install ubuntu 10.04 lts in my computer

(Windows XP, Windows XP dual boot) as frugal install . I do

not want to use the 'Live CD' which can do it perfectly. I want to

do it manually to know how to do it. I have been able to

install Slax 6.1.2 frugally in hard disk, and it can run from

Ram. May I use a boot loader such as 'Grub 4 Dos'? I also

want to use the Windows boot loader. Please help me.

Regards.

Download the minimal install CD from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD and add whatever you need to that.

I suggest you add some simple office apps, eg gnumeric and abiword, xorg-server plus a desktop environment such as lxde or fluxbox, and probably a browser for the web as a start, then see what you need as you go from there.

I can't help with using the windows bootloader, I'm afraid. I have no windows to deal with any more.

Hello,

Make a bootable cd/usb first to avoid any accidentally data loss/System recovery. Please see my(das1) post at the Slax 6.1.2 Linux forum where I have given the detail procedure about frugal installation of Slax to a machine running dual boot Windows.

Here is it:
http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=view&parentID=68672

But what will be for Ubuntu 10.04 lts, menu.lst file ... ??

If anyone know, pleasehelp me.

Regards.
