View Full Version : Problem installing Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on Intel Xeon MacPro

October 27th, 2010, 04:59 PM
The Intel Xeon MacPro is 64 bit.
However when trying to install on 2 separate (same model) MacPro's I get the boot error;
Select CD-ROM Boot type;
keyboard is not functioning so I am stuck.

When trying to boot from a 32-bit Ubuntu CD it works fine.

any ideas?

I had the exact same problem with Maveric on my iMac7,1. The 64 bit version of 10.4 (Lucid) worked fine on my machine, so that is what I decided to work with.

were you able to figure this out? i'm not able to install Ubuntu 10.10 on Xeon 64-bit Mac Pro.... download 64-bit version. burned to CD. text boot screen came up to select to run from CD or do complete install. tried both, neither worked. Mac Pro just hung there without any response. had to pull plug and try again. still didn't work. thanks.

I managed to get past this. With some clues from windows-forums, it seems the Mac BIOS doesn't support all ISO-formats.

I extracted everything from the CD into a folder, and then repacked it into a new ISO with instructions from here: http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/137524.

Good luck!

Does anyone have a server version of Ubuntu 10.10 that works on 64 Mac?
On http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/10.10/release/ there are only desktop versions.
