I've upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 and now my wireless will not connect. Am I able to re-install 10.04 from 10.10 or will this require a reformat?

A reinstall is the only option. You can not roll back.

Unfortunately, in all these years, Canonical STILL has not seen fit to implement any kind of system-level Restore capability. You have to manually backup the system yourself, do the system upgrade, and then, if something goes terribly wrong such that you need your earlier system back, manually restore it yourself. That's not terribly hard to do, but to find out about it AFTER your system is hosed is very disappointing.

With hard drives as large as they are nowadays, I think it just makes sense to create a new system partition of 10-20GB and install the new version. Once you have fully tested it, you then can convert to it.

But the real issue is why is the wireless not working. What version it it. Have you connected with a wired connection and see if in system, administration, hardware drivers it offers a driver to download?
