Permissions for cd/dvd drives

Hi there;

I installed ubuntu 10.10 and I was wandering and I can't get the dvd drive or the dvd burner drive to work. I get the message 'the permissions of cd/dvd drive could not be determined. Can someone tell me step by step how to fix this.
