I am a newbie and have installed several applications on my Powerbook running lucid, but when I click the "applications" menu, many of them do not appear on the list. They show in the software install/remove application.

How can I run the unlisted applications?

Press ALT+F2 and a box will pop up. Type the name of the program you wish to run. This is case sensitive and you have to know the exact name, such as "google-chrome" for chrome.

You might want to install GNOME-DO, which is a launcher (among other things). Open up a terminal, either from the menu or ALT+F2 and type "gnome-terminal" without the quotes.

Then just "sudo apt-get install gnome-do" and you should be good to go. Once you get used to using it you'll find you almost never need to use the menus or launchers anymore.

Thanks. That was a help. I also figured out that I could right click the Application Menu and add the missing applications there.
