Hi,

The thing is that I need to install Windows so I could use Matlab, as niter Octave nor Linux version of Matlab are really up to the task. Unfortunately for me my old and small HDD was, and still is, so full that I had to buy a new one.

The plan was at that point to install Windows on old HDD and Ubuntu on the new one, but then I've started thinking that I'll need to install Ubuntu all over again and that there must be an easier way to just transfer Ubuntu (as it is as it is working just perfectly) to another HDD. So the plan is on pause until I figure out if something like this is plausible or not. :-k

So, is there a way to transfer entire Ubuntu OS from one HDD to another, or do I need to reinstall? [-o<

Thanks

You might want to look at CloneZilla

There are many ways to copy a partition or entire disk - no need to re-install.

I nomally use Clonezilla (http://www.tuxradar.com/content/how-clone-hard-drives-clonezilla). Clonezilla will copy partition(s) or the whole disk.

You might also consider using VirtualBox (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CBgQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.virtualbox.org%2F&ei=o7nGTMO1JsOclgfUv62IAg&usg=AFQjCNGN8vSc78b6uiP42talP6wL3Ok1fA&sig2=utiKu7Tjt0f5mNEP-vJoyw) to run Matlab in a Windows VM.
