I'm thinking of installing Ubuntu, but before I do that I'd like to know if installing it removes your copy of Windows. If it does, is there any way I can work around that? Thanks for the info.

When you install Ubuntu will get options of installing. First install try the "side by side" it will split your drive in half, half for each operating system. Focus and follow directions and make sure you put grub (boot manager) in sda not sda1 or sda2 or sda5 but sda
So download a .iso copy to your desktop and BURN a Cd and start your install. Welcome.
