good weight/size for laptops

if im going to be running around a whole lot next year carrying a laptop is 4.4 lb @ 14" screen a good weight and size?(that would be on top of a textbook if i get unlucky with my schedule)

4.4 pounds is about the same weight as the average textbook, depending on the textbook's size. If you are used to carrying around 2 textbooks (like most highschoolers do) it shouldn't be a problem. It really depends on a lot of factors, such as how much/far you will be walking carrying this laptop around, as well as what you carry around other than the laptop.
