I've recently installed aMule. Not a great deal is happening and I notice that I'm getting the following message in the bottom left:

Warning: You have received a Low-ID

After some googling I've found out this means that I have limited access to the *mule net and that to get a high ID I need to open 4662 TCP and 4672 UDP ports in the firewall.

OK, so how do I do that in Ubuntu?? I'm not at all certain that I even have a firewall, let alone how to make changes to it!

What do those port numbers mean in English? I presume I would be opening myself up to some sort of vulnerability, but what in reality are the risks?
