I can't seem to create a proper usb install for my laptop.

I used the image I downloaded 1 day after release of 10.10, which I've used to install and use on my VMWare machine.

Formatted my thumb drive to FAT32, attempted installation through usb-creator.exe and unetbootin.

After creating usb install, plugged in to vaio p, restarted, this happens:
(I am very sure my P is booting off from external device)

usb-creator, windows: hangs at display of 'syslinux 3.6 (forgot the version)'
usb-creator, linux: briefly shows the syslinux line, then goes to black screen, hangs after that
unetbootin, windows/linux: goes to the unetbootin bootloader, any options that boot to ubuntu returned with error "unable to find a live file system on device" (I tried downloading a fresh iso from unetbootin too)
wubi, windows: i selected 'help me to boot from cd', and it gave error of some file not found somewhere through the install.

ran the linux programs from my VM.

I'm really really frustrated over this installation issue - this always happens when I try to install ubuntu on my devices, since 8.10.
I'll try to give as much info as I can.
